The Annual Sports Meet of St. Xavier's Higher Secondary
School, Pathaliaghat, commenced with a grand inaugural ceremony on 27th
November 2024, amidst great enthusiasm and celebration. The event was graced by
Rev. Fr. Sunny Joseph SDB,
Parish Priest of Pitra, as the Chief Guest. Esteemed members present included Fr. Babu Stephen SDB, Principal, Fr. K.K. Joseph SDB, Rector, Fr. M.A. Isaac SDB, Fr. James Doungel SDB, Fr. Lukas Murmu SDB, Fr. K.A. Thomas SDB, Vice-principal, Bro. Leo SDB, and Sr. Rihun Sten FMA, Superior of
Auxilium, Sr. Sweety Mary FMA, Mr. Nandu
Debbarma, Village Chairman, Mr. Anthony
Debbarma, Local Church Leader, along with teachers, parents, and students.
The programme began with the escorting of the Chief Guest by
Fr. Babu Stephen SDB and other
dignitaries. The ceremonial hoisting of the flag was performed by the Chief
Guest, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship and unity. This was followed by
an impressive parade inspection and the receiving of the salute from the
inter-house march-past. Eight contingents representing the four houses—both
boys and girls—marched in perfect coordination, showcasing discipline and team
spirit.
The solemn atmosphere was heightened by a prayer led by Ms. Rinki, followed by the oath-taking
ceremony administered by Ms. Jeena Lina,
pledging fair play and integrity in all events. A warm welcome address was
delivered by Fr. Babu Stephen SDB,
setting the tone for the event.
The lighting of the sports torch by the marathon winners,
alongside the Chief Guest and the Principal, was a highlight of the ceremony.
This symbolic act ignited the competitive spirit among the participants.
Inspirational messages were shared by Fr.
K.K. Joseph SDB and the Chief Guest, who emphasized the importance of
sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and holistic development. Following
this, the Chief Guest formally declared the Annual Sports Meet 2024 open.
The event proceeded with a spectacular mass drill display by
the girls of all four houses, followed by an awe-inspiring pyramid formation
presented by the boys. These performances captivated the audience and reflected
meticulous preparation and teamwork.
A series of exhilarating sports events unfolded throughout
the day, including the 200-meter race for seniors and intermediates, long jump,
high jump, triple-legged race, and pillow fight, among others. The participants
demonstrated remarkable athleticism and competitive spirit.
The day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where
the Principal and senior teachers awarded Certificates and medals to the
winners, celebrating their achievements and hard work. The event was a
resounding success, leaving everyone inspired and motivated for the future.
