On the 24th of May 2012, the Salesian Province of St. John Paul II, Silchar was officially inaugurated in a solemn function held at Silchar Don Bosco. Fr. George Maliekkal SDB was installed as its First Provincial. The province consists of seven regions: Mizoram, Tripura, Barak Valley (Silchar), West Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi of Meghalaya. The province  is  now  headed by Rev. Fr. John Zosiama, the Provincial, Fr. Jeevan Lakra, the Vice-provincial, Fr. Genesius Wanniang, the Economer, Fr. Saji Stephen , Fr. Babu Stephen, Fr. Nelson Joseph, Br. Regy Joseph, Fr. Kenny Pakma as Council Members and Fr. George Shining as Secretary. The Education and Culture dimesion and schools in the provicne is headed by Fr. Babu Stephen. The Salesian Province of Shillong has 34 main schools with a total number of 37,723 students of which 21,148 boys and 16,575 girls. There are also 1366 Teaching staff and 367 non-teaching staff in the province. The Province has another 220 village schools, spread around 15 Salesian Parishes, which are taken care by our Parish-priests in the far-flung areas of the Province.  All our Educational Institutions are marching towards excellence and relevance. A number of schools are top-notch in various towns. There are a good number of schools in rural settings. Few schools have additional evening or morning sections to help the poorer youth.  There are 34"regular schools" identified as those run with better attention. In general, the so called "regular schools" are performing well in the annual pass ratio and in many co-curricular activities.
