St. Joseph Higher Secondary School Pynthormukhrah is a Catholic Institution run by the Salesians of Don Bosco Shillong Province, in collaboration with the Salesian sisters. It was established in 1964 by Late. Rev. Fr. Cajetan Quidotoo SDB, then Parish priest of Mawlai, to address the educational needs of the youth in Pynthormukhrah and surrounding Villages.
The government of Meghalaya education department progressively accorded recognition to the school, first for Upper Primary in 1998, then Class VIII in 2000 and Class IX and X in 2004. In response to the evolving educational landscape, St. Joseph Secondary School was upgraded to Higher Secondary School in 2018.
