79TH INDEPENDENCE DAY AT DBS PITRA
The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at Don Bosco School, Pitra. The three-day program, held from the 13th to the 15th of August, was marked by a series of colorful events, competitions, and cultural activities that showcased the talent of the students while instilling in them a deep sense of national pride and responsibility.
The celebration began on 13th August with a Rangoli Competition organized class-wise. Students from different classes created vibrant and artistic rangolis in a variety of designs, reflecting the theme of unity and cultural richness of our country. Each class tried to present something unique, and the school compound was soon filled with bright colors and creative patterns. The senior students added more charm to the day by arranging a photo booth decorated with patriotic symbols, where both students and teachers captured memorable photographs. The rangolis and the photo booth together created an atmosphere of festivity and excitement, setting the tone for the upcoming events.
On the following day, 14th August, the school organized a Patriotic Dance Competition performed group-wise by both the junior and senior sections. Each group expressed their patriotic feelings through beautifully choreographed performances set to inspirational songs. The competition was graced by Sr. Lisa Chettri, the Provincial Superior of the Ferrando Province, Guwahati, who attended as the chief guest. In her inspiring address, she highlighted the importance of holistic development of students and spoke about the school’s growth over the years. She also encouraged the students to become more responsible individuals—dedicated not only to their personal growth but also to the service of society and the nation as a whole. Sr. Lisa was deeply impressed with the dedication and talent displayed by the students, and her words of motivation left a lasting impact on everyone present.
The grand finale of the celebration took place on 15th August, the day of Independence. The program began at 7 a.m. with the flag hoisting ceremony, conducted in the presence of Fr. Sunny, who was invited as the chief guest to honor the occasion. The hoisting of the national flag was followed by the singing of the National Anthem, filling the campus with patriotic fervor. Soon after, the students participated in a spirited March Past Competition, organized group-wise. The disciplined movements, smart turns, and synchronized marching reflected the hard work and dedication of the students and teachers alike.
The day continued with a series of Independence Day speeches delivered in four different languages—English, Hindi, Kokborok, and Bengali—by selected teachers, reflecting the linguistic and cultural diversity of India. Each speech brought out the essence of independence, sacrifice, and the responsibilities of the younger generation in building a better nation.
The juniors presented a cultural dance performance, which further uplifted the festive atmosphere showing that Independence Day was not only about honoring freedom but also about celebrating together as one family.
The three-day celebration came to an end with words of gratitude and encouragement. The events successfully combined creativity, culture, and discipline, offering a platform for students to showcase their talents while reminding them of their duties as responsible citizens. The celebration at Don Bosco School, Pitra, not only honored the sacrifices of our freedom fighters but also instilled in every student and teacher a renewed sense of unity, patriotism, and commitment toward the progress of the nation.
