Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mandai, celebrated World Indigenous Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and cultural pride. The theme, “Indigenous People and AI: Defending Rights, Shaping the Future,” emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous identity while engaging with modern technology.
The program began at 9:00 AM in a beautifully decorated auditorium. Laishok served as the Master of Ceremony. The event opened with a scripture reading from Acts 17:24–27 by Alem Debbarma, followed by the National Anthem.
Fr. Shanborlin Khardewsaw SDB presented a video on indigenous communities, highlighting their history and relevance, especially in Northeast India. A powerful keynote speech by Rev. Fr. Blasius Kujur SDB addressed the challenges faced by indigenous peoples and urged youth to embrace education and AI while preserving their roots.
The celebration continued with a vibrant rally through Mandai Kairai, where students marched with banners like “Our Roots, Our Strength” and “Indigenous is not Primitive. It is Original,” promoting pride and unity.
Back at school, students took part in creative competitions:
Drawing (Classes III–V): Showcased tribal life and traditions.
Weaving (Senior Girls): Honoured the cultural role of indigenous women.
The event concluded with a strong message: Being indigenous is about shaping the future with the wisdom of the past. The school community pledged to uphold and protect indigenous culture, identity, and rights.
